Committed to Listening
As the clock ticks down to a brand-new year, it’s that perfect time when we sit down and pen our resolutions for the approaching year. As Listens alumni, you’re already familiar with the four key commitments that empower us to truly listen to others. It’s our sincere hope that ‘listening’ features prominently in your 2024 resolutions or at least serves as a valuable tool to help you achieve your goals. Rest assured, we’re right there beside you on this journey.
This blog post is dedicated to THEM – The Four Commitments of Listening, offering a chance to revisit, reengage, and reaffirm these essential interpersonal skills.
The holiday season is a magical time filled with joyous reunions with family and friends, sparking a sense of excitement and significance. Yet, it can also be a challenging period where contrasting personalities and differing views may collide. It’s a time when extended family descends upon your home, rekindling bonds and creating treasured memories. But it could also be a time when certain chairs remain vacant for the first time or when some family members couldn’t make it home. Drawing from our LISTENS course, we understand that emotions, whether uplifting or distressing, can manifest in myriad ways – shaping our attitudes and behaviors, influencing our interactions, reflecting in our demeanor and mood, and affecting our ability to connect, communicate, and value those around us.
3 Pillars to Ensure a Successful Holiday Season
Our Holiday Survival 101 Guide presents you with 3 pillars to ensure a successful Holiday Season. This guide is a reminder of several skills learned in Our Community Listens. First, we must remember that reflective listening is a powerful tool in building connections with others. By choosing to listen reflectively, we minimize the need for apologies or regrets over what we may have said. Secondly, acceptance, distinct from agreement, is also vital in maintaining relationships and reducing conflicts, as it acknowledges that every behavior is an expression of need. Finally, recognition is a key aspect that allows us to strengthen bonds and uplift those around us. It’s never too late to celebrate the people we value, and by doing so, we encourage more of the behaviors we appreciate. Print a copy of this guide and keep it close during this busy season.
